Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Sorry if this has been posted Lighting up time at York Minster | | An illuminated York Minster |
MULTI-COLOURED patterns of swirling light are beamed on to Minster as a nine-day arts festival begins in York. The artwork Evoke, by digital artist Usman Haque, is the centrepiece of Illuminating York, a series of outdoor art installations, exhibitions, performances and tours. The 60-metre high interactive installation projects light on to the Minster's western façade, with microphones picking up sounds and adapting the shapes and colours of the images. Last night, the vocal group Amici Forever and St Aidan's Chamber Choir, from Harrogate, performed outside the Minster, using their voices to create colourful patterns on the gothic cathedral. Rory McCarthy, tourism development officer at City of York Council, said: "We wanted to secure an artist of international standing to create a light-based public artwork that will capture the imagination of the nation, inspiring visitors and residents alike." Evoke will run every night between 6pm and 11pm until next Saturday, November 3. For more information on the festival, phone York Visitor Information Centre on 01904 550099. 10:21am today | |

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Thanks Mary- no it hasn't been posted here anywhere. It's a shame there's no longer any information being posted about Amici's performances. It would have been a bit of a long trip for me- but I'm sure others may have tried to get there if they could. I have a google alert- but nothing showed up there in advance. Thanks for posting this for us. I'm sure it would have been an amazing sight. Love bevx

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Yes, indeed Bev, very dissapointing that this was not mentioned at all!!! It is well know that there are several of us who would have enjoyed making the journey to see what it appears was an enjoyable performance. I am extremely upset about this, as I know many others will be. There would have been reports and photos for dedicated fans throughout the world - I thought it was very quiet on here, so I guess we are now dispossible as supporting fans.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Hi Pat Incredibly disappointing for you and the UK fans. The opportunities to see Amici perform are very important to you all- as is it would be for fans worldwide- and to have one slip by without any inkling that it was occurring- would be devastating. As you say- an opportunity for you guys to share the experience with the rest of ushas been lost as well. As best I can tell- there's been no mention of it on the Amici myspace page either. Still rather stunned by it all- really. I'm trying to figure out when the performance was- would it have been Thursday night in the U.K. ?

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Having spent a few minutes in thought, I do not regret my posting above, but I have felt for a long time now that this site has been abandoned in favour of the likes of YOU TUBE and MY SPACE. There have been many warnings in the press and on TV about those 2 sites in particular warning about what can happen to the details you submit and having myself endured a Stalker for many months because of my posting on a certain forum, I am not about to go putting myself in harms' way again. I, and I would imagine others who have stayed loyal to this forum will feel a great deal of hurt, not to mention dissapointment, but most of all, confirmation that this particular site is slowing being driven into the ground by lack of information. There is nothing left to MODERATE, this week alone there have been days when no-one has made any entries in the forums. Even the 'fly posters' do not bother any more!!.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
As I said in my post above- there was no mention of the performance on the myspace page either Pat. The Official website is listed on the myspace page as a link to get information about Amici. I don't believe there's been an abandonment of the site- there's just been no information to impart on the Amici's performances up until now. Hopefully this was just an oversight- but one of huge proportions - that should never have have occurred. Whether the information gets posted by the admin- or by Amici's management- it is crucial that it gets posted on the Official Website for the group. The information about the York performance should have gone out to every subscriber to the site in the form of a newsletter. Amici deserve nothing less than at least giving their supporters the opportunity to show just that- their support at public performances! There has been no information on the official page or myspace about the upcoming Ball that Amici are performing at- that Paola posted an article about. Whether any of the ordinary fans could afford a function like that is beside the point. It is information about an Amici performance and should certainly be mentioned on the Official Website.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Just adding some info about myspace Pat. You can control who gets to see your page and what information others can see and who leaves you messages. Many people have their profiles set to private- that only certain people can access their page. To gain access- many people have their page set- that only those who know their surname or email address may apply to be accepted as a friend. Even getting through that process- you still have the ability to deny someone as a friend - therby denying them access to your page. The problems have occurred- I believe- where people have- as with other forums- perhaps given too much information-or not been as vigilant and careful as they could have been. The safeguards are there for people who chose to use them. As for youtube - with most musical artists- most have youtube clips on their myspace pages any way- that are readily accessible to all without having to be a 'friend' of the artist.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Thanks Bev, I take on board all that you have said about my space etc. One thing Caz pointed out just now as I was telling her about the lack of info and postings from Management etc. was that she was 'sacked' as a Moderator for not posting on the Boards as often as was expected, but none of us would ever have withheld such important information! As it is now nearly 2am I have not had a chance to talk to any of the UK ammies, but there are many of them that rely on this Forum to tell them where and when Amici are appearing, I just don't know what all the secrecy is about - one minute You Tube is being used to spread the word and the next their 'Official' Website contains virtually no information about their appearances - in my view there is only one conclusion to be drawn from that, and it does not feel very nice!

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
I don't think it's been an issue of secrecy- rather a dreadful and unforgivable oversight on the part of management. I don't know that myspace ever had information that wasn't posted on the official site. Both had info about the last concert - I think the myspace page was being used as well as this official site - to capture people who use that site. I think it's great that there's another way for Amici to garner more fans. It would only help in getting a fan base for another cd. I don't believe that this site has been neglected because of the myspace page- there was an element of that long before the myspace page was set up. Seems this last appearance hasn't been mentioned anywhere- on either site - as best I can tell. So it's not as if the myspace page has been used - at the expense of this site being excluded.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
I am confused about what the reason could be with the band's management failing to inform the Ammi's about this event! I echo Bev's thought - what a disappointment for the UK contingent, which includes some of the group's longest and most faithful supporters. What a shame! I've wondered for months what mangement is thinking - no news at all about their new CD, and to fail to let us all know about appearances; what can their purpose be!? Shaking my head over this one. I think Pat is quite correct about the "fly posters" and I feel bad; I have been a "lurker" of late. Seems like weekends are my only time on the computer. I hope that we get some kind of news soon - seems like the band has "splintered".
Julie I will carry you, be your strength, pull you through. [img]

They are obviously still performing together Julie- we just weren't told about it! And there's the upcoming Ball appearance- as per that news article. I think it's a case that they each continue their voice training/coaching- and seize any other opportunities to perform that may come along their way between Amici gigs - As David once said a few years ago- we all have to earn a living somehow..

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Hello As one of the quieter forummers, I would just like to add my voice to this post. As with many others, I watch this site with bated breath for any news of the band, any CD or concerts, and have found the shortage tantalising. Whilst we all fully appreciate how hard the band work behind the scenes, preparing for their new CD and adapting to their new line-up, we are all eagerly awaiting any opportunity to support their work. You know we will be there for you.
The only time I tend to venture on to youtube or myspace is when I see on here that David has added new clips for us to watch. (which, by the way are excellent. My favourites are the less traditional offerings, such as Morning Song and Shine). In my view, this site has to be the prime source of info - as the official Amici webpages. Anything else is a very very welcome bonus and, indeed as others have said, an excellent means of spreading the word. We live in South Derbyshire, but would have happily travelled to York to support the guys. Have a great weekend everyone. love Annie

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Thanks for your thoughts Annie- I know how disappointed everyone will feel when they find out they've missed seeing the group. The only thing I could think of is if it was something that was organised at the last minute. But I'd like to address that point in case the situation ever arises again. The members of this forum have always moved mountains to get to see Amici perform- and I hope this won't stop them doing that in the future. If there is ever a last minute gig organised- an email to Pat- would soon get her contacting other members of the forum- as she's well aware of who would do their darndest to get there by hell or high water! And I guess we'd add your name to the list Annie! Even if a few of us managed to make it- and just knowing that someone gave a thought to the possiibility that Amici's fan base had the opportunity. I guess that's what hurts- the lost opportunity. I've emailed Amici's management- so hopefully we may find out something eventually.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster
Thanks Bev - I would love to be included in any e-mail, that's very kind. Thanks too for e-mailing the Management team. As you say, there may well be a very valid reason such as short notice etc., but equally the electronic age means that communication is soooooooo easy. All the best Annie
