    Hi Pat

Lovely to hear from you.  Believe me, I would be more than off on one if I had been here - or had had access to the web while I was away.  I think a bit of muscle from us lot is more than the York Evening Press and City of York Council could stand.  Thanks as ever to everyone for batting for us.

Joy sends her love. Take care

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

Just thought I would update you - son went to see the spectacular lighting event on Wednesday evening.  He was home pretty quickly so I eagerly asked about it.

'Dont bother - stay at home in the warm and load up Windows Media Player with the visualisation turned on and save yourself a journey'

It seems that they have used the Minster as a screen for a projector. Nothing as spectacular as it was a couple of years ago.  He was very disappointed by it all.

A couple from the last one I went to:-

    York Minster

    York Minster

t'would have been nice to see something on this scale Crying

    Regards

    Mags xx

Thanks Mags, The Minster looks beautiful, what a shame it is not as stunning this year, seems they have got it wrong all round Confused

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

Thanks for the pictures Mags- it looks like a  beautiful Gothic structure-

It's a shame your son was disappointed in the show- but I guess others who see it this year for the first time might still enjoy it.  Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all of that...

    To be fair-Pat -

it wasn't the Festival organisers that were responsible for the Amici mix up- the responsibility for that was a 'reporter' who was too lazy to check her facts before writing her story.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

I've been away much too long. My apologies! I do drop in now and then but have not taken the time to post. So many changes... I also felt that the band was becoming rather distant. They haven't posted any blogs since June I believe. There must be something happening in their lives that we would be interested in! BUT...I still remain a fan and continue to enjoy their first two CDs. Now that I am the proud owner of an iPod (one year old!) I remain unable to copy the two CDs to the iPod. The computer won't even read the first CD and the second one comes up with software that needs to be downloaded. This probably isn't the place to be posting this but does anyone have a "workaround" for my problems? I drag the iPod everywhere with me and being able to listen to two of my favourite CDs on the device would be wonderful. It seems that a couple of years ago Sony told us how to download to an mp3 player but I'm too lazy to look for it. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

How very lovely to hear from you again, and yes, indeed there have been many changes.   With regard to the IPOD problems.   I am going to search around our older topics because I know this has been covered.   First do not down load the player on  Defined.   This has now been proved to be an illegal move by Sony and has been much written about as it can cause computer failure.   This was on hundreds of thousands of CD Albums released through Sony around the same time as Defined, and caused many major problems and Class Actions.   I will be back very soon with a link to what I hope will help with your problems.    I presume you already have I Tunes Player downloaded as the IPod will not accept many of the more common music formats like MP3 and WMA, so that would be the first thing to do.

Here is the link to a thread where these problems were discussed:

I am now going to find the 'Help' file mentioned at the end, but this will give some assistance I hope.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

Thanks for taking the time to look it up for me Pat. Yup...already have iTunes with tons of stuff on it already including a couple of videos. The first CD never played on my computer...for some reason it seems unable to read it but it was read perfectly well on a friend's computer. As wonderful as computers are, there are times that I'd like to see just how far I throw it (but that doesn't happen very often...he he).

    Hugs to all, David

You are more than welcome David, can't seem to find the old 'help' thread on our new Board, but I am sure someone will find it for you Big Smile

I know what you mean about computers, I did once drop one down the stairs, accidentally of course Indifferent

It does seem strange that The Opera Band never played on your computer though.  The only other option is that you could purchase your fav tracks from Apple online into ITunes and then transfer to your IPod - bit of a double wammy when you already own the Album though!.

    Have a great weekend.

    Hi David

Hi David!! - it has certainly been a while. I hope everything is fine with you and your part of the world.

I've been doing a bit of globetrotting to see one of your wonderful compatriots- Rufus Wainwright.

Now he's coming to Oz in january- so that will be nice.

Hope you've sorted out your ipod problem-

I've just searched all through the archive thread- and I can find no trace to that link at the end of the thread. It seems it may have got lost when we came to the new board.

Nice to hear from you again !

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

Thanks Bev. It's nice to hear from you too.

I'm doing well and settling in for the coming winter season. It's been a long haul since Dad died last year and Mom with Parkinson's, is comfortably in a nursing home. So many changes but I continue to find strength; mostly from Angels holding me up under each arm. I continue to look for blessings in everything that happens. Sometimes it's not easy...perhaps at those times the blessings aren't necessarily for me. I continue to smile and know that I'm not alone on this path.

I'll keep plugging away at the iPod problem. There has to be a way! I'll let you know if I find it.

     Hugs, David

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

How strange that you are having such problems David. I used the itunes program to download both the CD's onto mine without a hiccup and now I use both the itunes program real player to download my music. I really prefer Real Player as it gives less problems. I have not encountered any problems with any CD's downloading onto my computer, as soon as I put a disk into the computer real player asks me if I want it in my library straight away. Maybe it is different security in different countries where the disks are released.

I'm another one that has fallen guilty to sporadic visits! Embarrassed

Relieved to hear that this was a small misinformation and that we werent completely left in the dark over a possible performance!! Especially since we're deprived enough as it is! lol
