Re: THEATRES/CONCERT HALLS - Amici have performed at.
This is the Stage for the Twickenham performance
which is in the grounds of Marble Hill House
Marble Hill is the last complete survivor of the elegant villas and gardens which bordered the Thames between Richmond and Hampton Court in the 18th century. It was begun in 1724 for the remarkable Henrietta Howard, mistress of King George II when he was Prince of Wales, and friend of some of the cleverest men in England. The house and gardens were planned by a coterie of fashionable connoisseurs, including Lord Herbert and Mrs Howard’s neighbour, the poet Alexander Pope.
A lovely Palladian villa still set in 66 acres of riverside parkland, Marble Hill was intended as an Arcadian retreat from crowded 18th-century London. It became renowned as a salon of literary wits, gathered round their learned hostess. The compact but carefully planned interior is focused on the firstfloor ‘Great Room’ where Mrs Howard held court. Beside it are her own columned showpiece bedchamber with a charming long gallery above and dining and breakfast parlours below.
Marble Hill’s decoration and furnishings have been exquisitely restored and recreated, and some of its original contents, dispersed in 1824, have been re-assembled from as far afield as Philadelphia and Melbourne, Australia. There is also a fine collection of early Georgian paintings, including portraits of Mrs Howard and her circle. There can be few places in England which better recall the atmosphere of Georgian fashionable life.
A new display recreates the Chinese wallpaper Henrietta Howard hung in the dining room in 1751. Using historical references and motifs, a unique paper has been designed to fit the room, each sheet different and, like the originals, hand painted by Chinese artists

Bellaria: All of these pictures are amazing! I can't wait for more. How great would it be if it was your job to perform in these places? Man....
How great would it be to be able to turn up to all the performances and experience the surroundings AND AMICI!!! Perfect for me- because I'm very partial to architecture- and wish I knew more about the various styles and periods.

BIRMINGHAM SYMPHONY HALL

I must have been jet lagged when I went to this concert. I think I arrived the day of the concert. I can't remember the hall being so grand!! It's rather like the inside of the Starship Enterprise!!

BLACKPOOL WINTER GARDENS OPERA HOUSE

Quite a few Ammis came to this concert- as I recall. I sat with Paul and his daughter in the cafe in the arcade as we waited with anticipation for the theatre to open. Then after the performance- Mary and I found a pub and had a drink while they decorated the bar with colours for the upcoming soccer World Cup.

I have no pictures of the Superstar Theater at Resorts in Atlantic City. Not a very elegant place, but Elvis did perform there once. (gave Geoff a charge, as I recall!) These pics are all wonderful - thanks much. The art deco movie theater in my hometown is in the process of being renovated - hope they keep it to that 1920's form. It had really been run down in recent years. But there is so much to be said for those old theaters - so much more character than the places they build now.

Bournemouth International Centre I'm not sure about the 2004 concert, but the 2006 concert was held in the smaller hall -Solent Hall. I have to say that it was- basically - a hall- without the decor and design - modern or otherwise of some of the other venues. But this venue was in David's (regional) home town - so to speak- and I know that it would have been one of the most important performances of all for him . He was able to share his Amici performance with his family, friends, people he'd grown up with and had known him all his life. There was a special buzz that night for the Home Town Boy. So maybe it's not always about the environment- the acoustics and the staging.

I'M GUESSING THIS WAS THE BRECON VENUE- BRECON THEATRE. How beautiful is this setting. Someone who may have gone might be able to clarify. Pat?? BRECON - THEATR BRYCHEINIOG

It seems that many of the venues seem to be next to or in the precinct of the waterways and seaboards. I guess that's where communities spring up and congregate.

Great shot of Resorts, Bev. The Ferris Wheel on the right of the shot is Steel Pier. It is one of the oldest amusement piers on the Jersey shore. Famous for the "Diving Horse" show. The AC boardwalk is pretty "trashy" on the whole. Ocean City to the south has a very nice one - more family oriented. I warned David about venturing out of the hotel area as the casinos down there are surrounded by some of the worst areas of town. Lots of crime , not like Vegas where you can walk around all night and no-one bothers you. They are trying to clean it up, but not having much success.

Was there a drama/thriller made some year's back with Susan Sarandon called ' Atlantic City'? I keep meaning to look it up. Must do it now. That showed a seedy underbelly as I recall- to wherever it was set. Yep- here 'tis: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080388/

I think you are right, Bev. Having legalized gambling always creates it's own host of problems, but Vegas seems to police itself better. We now have casinos here in Pennsylvania. They are slots only and there are two within an hour of me. Unfortunately, so many people get addicted to it and can't stop. Much like the lottery we have. It does help bring in revenue and the lottery proceeds go to senior citizen programs, but some people have no control and ruin themselves. I go into the casino and lose my $20 and that is it. The most I ever won in a slot machine was the night I met David there - he brought me luck!
