HHmmmm!!! This is certainly disappointing - Amici's performances are eagerly anticipated by so many people - and not bothering to advertise them in the most obvious place is some pretty big oversight. Not only do the fans nearby not get the opportunity to rock up, but us overseas ones dont get to hear second hand about them either! And with some fans working so hard behind the scenes promoting Amici as much as they can, its probably about time the people who get paid to do it come to the party too. There is no better advertising than that which comes from the fans - and its free!! Take advantage of it!

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

Just to add my two bits worth to this, I have been wondering of late what has been happening. We know that there is a CD coming out and (supposedly) a tour planned for next year but we have no dates at all and there has been little or no information from management about the band for months really.

I know we all love our guys devotedly, but I think that Bev's email to management was needed to shake things up.

In the meantime we listen and wait impatiently for any tit bit we can garner.

Little did I know that posting that would create such a discussion.

I think that there is very little information posted on here, I don't think that more information is posted  on My Space or wherever than here.

It has nothing to do with the members of Amici that we get no information (not sure who should be doing it).

Could it  be that the info was not posted because they did not want our money.

I know some time things happen at the last minute, but there is nothing in the article to indicate that Amici were asked at the last minute because someone was not able to attend.

Part of the article I posted

Rory McCarthy, tourism development officer at City of York Council, said: "We wanted to secure an artist of international standing to create a light-based public artwork that will capture the imagination of the nation, inspiring visitors and residents alike

I live less than I hour away from York and I would have gone, I hour is nothing compared to some journeys I have madeSmile

    Hi Mary

I had to look up my map of the U.K. to see where York was- never having been there- and I noticed how close you were.

And I wondered if you'd been lucky enough to have seen something in the local papers that gave you enough warning to get there- but  then realised you'd have mentioned it if you'd made it to the show.

Like I said earlier-  such a lost opportunity for so many fans.

I don't think anyone for a minute holds the guys responsible for letting us know when there's performances in the offing.

I really would like to hope that in future the fans will always be made aware of opportunities to see Amici perform live- whenever and wherever they occur.

I'd not be above crashing a party in Moscow if I had the werewithal to get there!!! Surprise

Illuminating York 2007 - 'Evoke' by Usman Haque

    Start: 26/10/07 | End: 03/11/07 Time: 00:00

    6pm to 11pm each evening.

Members of the public will use their own voices to create colourful light patterns that emerge at the building's foundations and soar up towards the sky.  Resembling electricity, rapidly growing roots or electronic marbles, the graphically animated colours, determined by the particular voice characteristics of each person, will skim the surface of the Minster, pour round its features and crevasses, and disappear through windows, emerging finally near the top of the facade where they will sparkle high overhead.

For further details see Illuminating York website

I have only managed to find this little bit information so far - can't scout for any more as my server has dumped me for going over my quota. I may just be able to post the above and thats it for now.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

As many of you do I 'Google' lots of words that could bring me news of Amici, but nothing.   I too found the site you mention Paola but nothing on there at all.    I would have thought by now that all those involved with Amici would know by now that we would move heaven and earth to get to a performance be it a single song or a full concert.

Looking back, a pattern has emerged to keep the guys in the group away from us guys, ie no presence now on this site, no information as to what is going on.   Management once told me that they feel 'uncomfortable' announcing private gigs the guys do because of the clients' privacy, but surely no names need to be mentioned, just a heads up that they are still around and performing!  Even the monthly Newsletter is not sent out any more!

I know I should not take this personally, but it feels as if they are almost ashamed of us, perhaps we are too demanding, too noisy etc and they want a more sedate group of fans, more fitting to their music.   I do feel very hurt by this, and am seriously considering my position.   If we are not wanted then perhaps I should just fade into the background.

Just another thought, perhaps this is a reverse phycology move - it has livened up the site, if only for critique.

Good grief- Pat-  that is  a HUGE presumption to make!!  I seriously doubt that thought would ever cross the minds of the group or their management!

And anyone in the business knows that a fan base is what keeps artists afloat. Well- that's common sense really.

Perhaps we need to just wait on some sort of explanation.

We don't have all the facts and even when we do - -I know that the damage has been done- that people are feeling very hurt and bewildered- but let's not go down the road of making a bad situation worse.

I'm hoping you'll just wait to see what eventuates- Pat- before you do something you may regret.

I was going to say sleep on it- but that's me over here- because it's day time over there isn't it?

Please don't beat yourself up over this Pat- you know how much the group value their fans- that has never changed- you've seen them recently-  and you must know that.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

I found this article, dated January 6th, 2007.  Sounds like there were some long term plans - I can't think this was a last minute "gig".

    http://www.yorkminster.org/news/story136/digital-art-bringing-medieval-masterpiece-to-life-at-york-minster.html

One thing that Evan said to me this morning was "Mom, maybe they didn't tell anyone because they didn't want to turn it into a concert."  I thought that was a very wise observation, but I would have thought that the more numbers they got out, the better.  And I am sure our band would have attracted the numbers!

You're put out!!!  Not as put out as I am!  I live local to York and didn't even know they would be there!!!  I came over to here to find out if there was any information as to whether they would be appearing all week and nothing!  This hasn't even been advertised locally!

I plan to go one evening during the week and will report back to you all.

Oh sorry for being so rude - I never even said HiEmbarrassed

I am just so incensed at reading about this after the eventCrying

    Hi magnolia- welcome.

I'd expect that the appearance of Amici - along with the choir -  was a one off-  and just for the  opening of the Light show installation.

From the article posted- it seems that the vocals of the festival visitors will be used with the installation from now on.

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

If you live locally- as you say-   Magnolia -

you need to be having something to say to the festival organsers about how they promote and advertise their festival.

It beggars belief that if this installation is the show piece of the festival - that they've not advertised it in any way in the local area. And that would be the case regardless of who was to be there on  the Opening Night.

Can I just ask that we maybe wait to hear something- from someone- about this appearance- before we continue on the subject.

We know from past experiences- that whenever anything contentious occurs- it seems to draw people from far and wide- who may or may not be who they claim to be- so  I'd hope that we keep that in mind at the moment.

Hopefully we'll have  some information soon - that may not help with this situation- but certainly in the future..

    Hi Magnolia

I understand your distress, you must be devestated to have been so near, and not to have known.   What can I say, that I have not already - perhaps a little unwisely- said.   This is after all meant to be a support network for Amici, who I am sure, would in no way wish to cause this anguish amongst us.

I think at times the guys are a little in awe of the lengths we will go to in order to catch a glimpse or hear a few notes!    I remember one of them saying to me that they were so appreciative of our (all of us) support and were amazed at how far we sometimes travel.

I am sure that Bev is right in saying we should now wait for an 'official' explanation of the course of events that led to so much dissapointment.

Whilst on here, I would like to say thank you to all of you both visible and not visible on the site for your pm's and comments of support and distress.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to the site Magnolia, we do not normally grumble so much !!

Re: Lighting Up Time at york Minster

Welcome, Magnolia!  And Pat is right, we don't usually grumble and grouse this much Big Smile

I am in the states, so I would not have been there anyway, but I feel bad that you who are local missed it.  I even tried You tube and there is a vid of the light show from 2005, but not of last week's show.

I have actually been to the Minster.  I was there two weeks before the big fire in '84, so I got to see it whole.  I even went all the way up to the rooftop around that little windy stair (whew, what a climb).  I don't imagine they allow that anymore for security reasons, but that was quite a view.  Yorkshire is lovely and I would love to go back one day.

Again, welcome aboard and I am sure we will all look forward to your reports.  The light show is something to see by all accounts, so I hope you do enjoy it.
